    Default Solar Air Conditioning

    I need some information on Solar Air-conditioning, and Solar Panels.

    Is it possible to get it here in Jamaica. I know of Solar Panels, but Solar Air conditioning???

    If so, what will be the cost.

    Is there really Solar Air-conditioning, or do you need to get solar panels to work a regular AC unit.

    How much does Solar Panels cost.

    What size panel will I need for a Large A Unit.

    Another thing I must ask, is, why are we (people in Jamaica and the government) not producing Solar Energy as a method of electricity, I mean this is a very HOT caribbean country (jamaica), and I think we could do well, where "Going Green" is concerned. We could be the country that uses its renewable energy as a number 1 product, and could be the talk of the world.

    Also fuel as gone sky-high, and the place seems to be getting hotter and hotter.

    Please give me your thoughts on this.

    Thanks

    I must love TechJa to be breaching protocol every time so, but ontop the North Tower of the NCB buildings are several Solar panels, I was told (unconfirmed) they belong to the Japanese Emabassy and it covers over 90% of their energy bill. Its an enormous amount of panels, and they have seen hurricane to hurricane and are still standing. However with the new reduced tax on energy items it should be cheaper than before to import solar panels and such into Jamaica.

    well i know for a fact that they are very expensive and chances are you wont find a reseller in JA.

    This is one of the local stores that are around me and there prices for them
    Solar panel

    they even have a wind power generator..for about $800CAD
    i was considering bring one to JA for my peeps house but they would more than likely charge u a arm and a leg in duty

    Guess what, according to the new duty regulations, it should cost near to nothing to bring any energy conservation equipment into the island, plus the Government (not like I trust either side) said they are reviewing some parts necessary to the upkeep of these equipment and having the duty removed from them as well. The previous Government did it and this Government is following suit and for that I'm appreciative.

    <slightly off-topic>

    This thread reminds me of an article I once read about a guy who cobbled together a homebrew solution for using solar to power an ice-machine. Not the only implementation I've seen but definitely one of the more accessible ones for the DIY crowd.
