Default How to connect Black berry messenger using wifi

My female friend has a bb 9300 and her bb service is disconnected and she is able to use her bbm via wifi. From that discovery, she hasn't put back on any bb service from digicel etc. Now I am trying to connect my Black berry 9700 and 9650 and no luck, has anyone been able to connect there bbm via wifi And how?

BBM is a service from RIM that is available once you activate BIS (Blackberry Internet Service). It works over the data package in your phone, i.e. EDGE or 3G depending on your carrier. It can also work over Wi-Fi if you are in range of a Wi-Fi signal. This is all dependent on whether your BIS account is active or not. Sometimes it takes a while for RIM to realise that your subscription is ended especially when connecting over Wi-fi and BBM may still work for a short period.

If you did not sign up for BIS at all and you attempt to connect over Wi-fi IT WILL NOT WORK. I suspect that is what you are attempting to do with 9700 and 9650

LOLOL sorry sorry about the gramatic errors earlier i am new to the BB typing thing and i was using a bold 2 at the time, could hardly type with it because the buttons are so close. Anyways she also said, she is able to send free text to my number normally via wifi also but that stoped working recently.

What i realize is that the BB 8520 and 9300 series have more internet connection options than the bold series eg. to choose whether you prefer to use wifi/ data plan only etc, dont see these options in the bold series. The other thing i read is that the 9300 has a better wifi technology than the bold 9700 and 9650 it has wifi b/g/n

You are able to send BBM over Wifi with a 3rd party app. I had it once but when i format my phone the other day i forgot to back it up. I fogot the name of the app too. The thing is, it was a girl that i got it from too. When i see her at work tonight i will get it back and tell you all the name of the app. It only works over wifi.

Well guys I collected the bb 9300 and I realise that in the mobile network option there is a mode where u can select: wifi only, cellular network only etc. Don't see that mode in either the. Bold 2 nor bold3. She verified with me that. From here. Bb service is disconnected she ask been using it on the. Wifi only, that was selected in the mobile network options. Hence I think that's the cause of getting the bbm to connect via wifi
