    Ok.
Guys, I messed up my Windows and had to reformat. I was trying to install Ubuntu. I wanna be able to have XP and Ubuntu on my system as the same time and be able to switch to either when I desire. How do I do this? Please explain step by step. Thanks.

    3 setups:

    setup 1:
use ubuntu cd to create a 5gb or more partition for ubuntu.
    install windows in remaining space
    install ubuntu on created partition

*note ubuntu can read windows partitions but unless it is fat32 it will not write.

    setup 2:
install a 5gb or more partition for ubuntu.
install a second partition (fat32) this will share as a common drive for both ubuntu and windows to share.
    install windows in remaining space
    install ubuntu on first partition

    setup 3:
install a 5gb or more partition for ubuntu.
install a second partition for your /home user directory
    install windows
    install ubuntu

*remember to mount your /home partition as /home. this setup makes it easiest for when you switch distros if you ever do. it would also be adviseable to couple this setup with setup2 so that you have a common file storage area for all of your OSś

And are you saying that I can't use NTFS at all? How do I make the first Partition for Ubuntu Fat32 and then the 2nd Partition NTFS for Windows? Then how do I choose what partition to load at startup. My final questions.

Well, I went home last night and decided I wouldn't go to bed until I completed this. Well, after several trial and error attempts and long hours, I finally partitioned my hard drive to use Ubuntu and Windows XP and dual boot. This was after 4 AM this morning. Thank God for a "DIY" mentality!

P.S. My system isn't quite up to date and having my system this way is kind of taxing on my PC. Anyone with old PC-100 SDRAM chips lying around?
