If Ubuntu or kubuntu is too heavy or if the new ones dont work, just find an old version like ubuntu 6.06 LTS or something.

Whatever live distro works, since everything u do in linux ultimately goes to a FILE, just make all changes to your config files to get the print server working and tar up all the files u changed and keep them somewhere remote. Then to load another PC, all you do is boot the live cd and extract the config files from the remote tar archive and that's it... print server back up in minutes. This way you wont have to build ur own static live distro.
