Why not? Its not hard to imagine they didnt plan that part of their development differently than they normally do, or didnt know how.

Unlike similar games though, MGS4 won’t just have you sitting around whilt the data slooooooowly installs itself onto your hard-drive.Instead, you’ll be treated to conversations between characters as the data is written to your PS3, making the whole experience seamless.
Decent way to handle it, tho its a lot of installs. More than most other games with their 1 time install

The fact is that they have mandatory installs on PS3 from jump, something that is RECENT to the 360. That is the whole point. Don't make it seem as if the Ps3 games all run from the Disc.

    Also:

The PlayStation Store, which comes preinstalled on the PlayStation 3, lets users download movies, music, and video games. Like the Wii and Xbox 360, it has a selection of low-cost casual games that can be purchased online only. It also has some original PlayStation games that can be downloaded straight to the hard drive and run using a software emulator.

In late 2007, Sony began releasing select PlayStation 3 titles as direct downloads. It was the first current-generation console to do so. These games cost about the same as their Blu-ray Disc retail counterparts, but only eight have been released as direct downloads out of the hundreds of titles that have hit retail.

Along with games that run on the PlayStation 3, users can also purchase some games for Sony's portable system, the PSP, which can be transferred via USB cable to the device.

So kiddies what have we here ?
The Ufo needed to install games so that they could be playable before you died of old age.
The UFO has been selling PS3 games online (retail no less) since 2007

I don't see the problem with installs nor selling games via the PS Store. The thing is that the PS3's had the hard drive from the get-go so they have been utilizing it that's all. That was not an option for the 360 side as it would alienate arcade/core owners.

oh and I don't know of any PS2 game that you had to swap disc, and I've played over 70 of them. Last time I had to swap disc was in PS1 CD days with Legend of Dragoon.

Well, at least I will have GT to play on the PSP.

GT5, according to series boss Kazunori Yamauchi, is "at a point where we can release it any time we want," so why not just save all the fans out there the suffering of an even longer wait and put it out? Well, you see, Yamauchi wants to "release it as fast as I can...but we can always keep working on it. It's very important for us to make sure everything is done perfectly and everything is done in detail."

So Polyphony Digital can "always keep working on it," which means that they could be working on forever. Who knows how long it's been in a state that would, by any other standards, be more than good enough for a game to ship? Oh well. At least there's Gran Turismo PSP, which will ship this October.
Him and George Broussard a cousin ?

    explain ?
You said you never swapped games playing a PS2, I never owned one, but I am sure my friend did on his games, so I was checking for multiple DVD games, then I saw that the bulk of PS2 games were shipped on CD-ROM not DVD, which was a surprise, I was always under the impression that most or all Ps2 games were on DVD.
