what if one wants to be a specialist . you can easily get a person who knows a little this and a little that.

The challenge is to make sure that you find the right niche

Take it from me... certfication is no gurantee of a job. Business need professionals with the full package.. techincal, business and personal skills.
I keep saying the same thing but when i do they call me "MR ANTICERTS"

My advise is to try and get a degree with the certifications, even an associate, because Jamaican Employers don't Really knows the value of the Certs. If you don't have some form of link or in a Company with an IT opening its very hard for inexperience personnel to get jobs. I know someone with CCNA that is about to expire and he haven't got an IT job since getting certified.

what happens when ur cccna cert expires? is it a must that u get the new one or can u still get jobs with expired cert? i saw on the cisco website that u need a valid ccna cert to do ccnp, does valid there mean a ccna cert that has not expired?

Yes a CCNA cert can expire i belive its every 3 years you have to renew it. People can still try to pass them self off as certified, but most companies consider that fraud, but i guess once you have the skills to back it up you should be okay.

And yes to do CCNP you have to have an active CCNA cert.
