If you know Bloodshed C++ compiler, you should know that that was written in Delphi.
Years ago I was into VB big time and then switched to Delphi. I preferred it over VB.
I found it to be cleaner, less buggy and easier to deploy my executables.
I have several apps developed in Delphi that are still being used in companies in Kgn.
Although Delphi can be used to develop webapps, a few years ago I switched to Java and have never looked back...lol....since then it has been Java
I recommend Ubuntu
Delphi is still my number one PL. Much much easier that C.

Delphi is basically Object Pascal....a very good language. My boss uses it. I use C# because at the time I started working, Borland went out of business and it seemed as if Delphi was no longer going to be supported. But now that it seems it will still be supported I think I might delve into it again.

Each programming language has it's own merits.....Delphi should have less bloat than C# but at what cost in terms of functionality and features.
