Talking Employers, Managers, what irritates you about your employees?

You bosses, employers and managers (yes, we know you read the site too), what is it about employees that irritates you? What are some of the things you don't like to see take place?

well since this is techja ill answer the question with regards to my computer business instead of my grocery store

what bothered me when i had my office was how employees sometimes cant seem to make themselves useful, if a customer isnt right in front of them or i dont say hey do this , nothing gets done.

and if they have to work an hr or two after 5pm they complain but if they come an hr or two after 9am they got an excuse

and worst of all when im not there all they do is check their email and run up the phone bill

When I was in management my biggest issue was dealing with people who think there "gods gift to earth" always giving excuses on why they don't want to do this and cant do that, always complaining...bringing up problems without suggesting solutions....in brief...i hate employees that b1tch

What annoys me the most is the unwillingness to learn as well as being unable to offer suggestions to problems and not just point issues out. I like persons who are dynamic are able to multi task and apply themselves to the fullest. But for the most part I hate working with persons who don't contribute positively and just chat crap and office gossip. Work is for working so you can get payed not a hang out spot.

Interesting. How widespread is this? I've typically seen the reverse where issues are highlighted by employees, suggestions made, and not being acknowledged or entertained.

Well in my experience I was kinda the middle man...Team leader....management made decisions that they thought was in the best interest of the department, the team wouldn't always agree and rather than come up with logical solutions...or any solutions for that matter they would just complain about how unfair it was. Now in case the folks i worked with sees this post..you know your self...you know the main people i talking about. Dont get me wrong there where some people on my team that came with very good suggestions and could give very constructive critique.

What happened in my case was a mob mentality, 1 person express his views negatively and it affected the entire group....i can give u the gory details if u want...what i find is that people where ready to blame others/systems for there short comings.

heres an example...I was put in charge of a department...pretty much by my self since it was a pilot program (test), It involved talking directly with the front line agents and processing projects within 15-20 mins otherwise it would be placed into a queue...the project was going pretty good...soo good that i couldn't keep up with the load..well my system, I could only upload 1 client's data at a time...solution GET ME ANOTHER SYSTEM...simple and by the end of the day I had 2 of the most powerful systems in the company at my desk with 2 22" CRT monitors

now this same issue happen to someone else on my team...if he even came to me and said give em another PC I would say hmm Ill look into it, its a possible solution...but no instead the person comes to me wining ...literally wining that the system is too slow and they wont be able to meet there target and its unfair and they cant work with this..blah blah blah...i go over they uploading a huge file...fine I know the system hangs some times after a set time so if u try again it usually works...which it did

    Sorry for ranting

    No worries man. Rant away.

Question though, who's responsibility is it for finding solutions to problems that are systemic? If an employee gets paid to do specific things (his JD) and that doesn't involve decision making or problem solving at the high level, can he be faulted for speaking out when something is wrong with "the system" without putting forward a solution? Aren't the "bigger heads", the managers etc. the ones paid to find and implement solutions?
