I would still however...would like to know how to install OS through a network. So you could still include that detail...I am sure there are others who would love to know how to do so.

Oh...it sounds simple....so are you saying that...even if the pc does not have any form of OS installed....let say it is a brand new empty HDD.....in this case....I don't think it would work....am i right?
For it to work through a network....does the other pc have to have an OS installed...in order for you to replace the existing OS?
I have a laptop too with the same problem. The suggestion link that i c in the post i went on the link and it send me to Windows site saying it require 6 blank floppies to hold xp setup files. So thats it?........ Just floppies only? I wont need to copy xp cd contents to the hardrive or what?
And can someone tell me exactly step by step how to install over a network. The laptop is empty there is no OS on it. And it have usb and network port. How will i get the network to detect it? Please help me.
The average human spends 1/3 of his/her life sleeping.
Why sleep when u r wasting 1/3 of your life?
U have dreams to fulfill. Why waste the time by sleeping?
There is always enough time to sleep when u r dead.
What I did when the cd drive went back on my bro's laptop was:
Network it with mine (xp home was on it and he wanted xp pro)
then share my cd drive
then read my drive from his laptop.
This was done also to install the additional softwares.

It is impossible for XP to hold on 6 floppies. Those disk constitute the regular XP boot disks that you use to run repairs and start XP setup if your cdrom disk is not bootable. XP CANNOT be installed from the 6 floppies only.Originally Posted by fabieville
Utech22, he would already need an OS to do this.

the six floppies will allow you to boot and use networking to do install. there is another way if there is no working network adapter Install instructions
This will work with no cd or floppy

Maybe going through the trouble not going to be worth because the system specs going to limit XP severely.
