Answer: C - 3) Runs regedt32 to get to the registry and begins looking at unnecessary items in order to remove them.

Explanation: As a default, msconfig does not exist on Windows 2000.

Which one of these steps is not possible given the situation?

I thought msconfig is not possible since its not does not come with Win2k by default.

Why wouldn't it be possible to run regedt32?

BTW..I did not vote on this question.

    @ juba

Because anti-spyware and anti-adware applications would have already gone through the registry and remove all the forign elements.

The question ask, which is "not possible", it even went as far as to say
He hasn't made an moddifications to the operating system in any way other than the basic software that he installed
meaning that msconfig is not on they system.

what you are saying then is that you can do all of the following:

    1) Reboots and runs a Boot-Time virus scan prior to the OS loading.
    2) Runs anti-spyware and anti-adware applications to take care of unwanted files and settings on the computer.
    4) Runs 'msconfig' to check out which items are starting up with the OS.
    5) Takes a look at the CPU time that each process is using in order to see which is dragging CPU resources.

My bad juba, kinda got confused reading from the answer to your Q. I didn't rem about the "not possible" part as I had only read the Q once. :-\ I'll make sure to read it twice next time.

I think that makaveli himself is also mixed up. He probably meant to say "D" instead of...

So why is C not possible?

The explanation you gave is why D is not possible.

Another way of asking this questions is:

She finally gets it resolved by performing many tasks that include the following except?

Makaveli the answer is D or 4 according to the wording of your question. The geek can do everything except use msconfig. ;D
