if you're into lan gaming then you may want to consider a fragbox. Falcon Northwest's take on a portal gaming rig.

If you have skillz and can put together such a beast yourself, you can get the parts separately and come out a lot cheaper.

1. Processor speed 2.6 Ghz or more
2.Memory 1GB or more
3. 3D Accelerator - 256Mb
4. CRT Monitor so u can keep up with the frame rates because most LCD max at 60fps which is not good.
5. Good sound preferably an Audigy.
6. Last but not least u need broadband because online is the way to go.

well me i don't have an altimate gaming rig but i'm definately working on it
3000++ athlon xp
1.2gb of ram
9600 radeon pro
2 x 40gb western digital (7200)
toshiba dvd burner
audigy

well you should go with the amd 64.
choose the 9600xt, or even the 9800xt if you can afford it.
for the hard drive, get one with 8mb cache.
