you can just readup on the OSI model and general networking stuff and why dns is necessary. No there will be no certificate issued, and no accreditation, this is just the JaLUG putting on a presentation to help spread the use of linux in Jamaica.

You can read any documentation on DNS. Here is a good document by Microsoft. It does a good job explaining the theory behind DNS.

If you are new to DNS, read the Microsoft document, attend the session, then read the others.

ok then...which distro will the demonstartions be done on?

The networking sessions will be done on CentOS which is a Red Hat clone. The training will be applicable to any distro so this should not be an issue.

We will be using a Linux machine and a Windows 200x server machine to teach DNS, DHCP and firewalls. DNS is DNS on Windows and Linux. DHCP is DHCP on Windows on Linux. Firewalls are firewalls on Windows and Linux.

It is easy for Windows admins to learn Linux if they understand that they are doing the same things on both operating systems. The main difference is that the Windows and Linux screens look a bit different.

ok thaks for the heads up. i have some knowledge of windows DNS from labs that i have been doing at home creating DNS records from "scratch" without the aid of AD. well i have two distros Mandriva and Fedora core 6 so i guess i am part ready
