Its more than just the spectrum licensing costs, 5G SA (Standalone) requires new radios (RAN) and a new 5G core separate from existing 4G LTE and the equipment is expensive. With the cheaper provider Huawei being flagged as persona non-grata by the West carriers are limited to few remaining core network infrastructure providers like Ericsson and Nokia and to a lesser extent Samsung.

The higher speeds, lower latency and capacity while beneficial cannot be easily offset by the cost and if this is passed down to the consumers no one will want it and continue to make due with 4G.

    *ahem*

    Mek dem gwaan.

Huawei is leading currently with a lot of tech. They're gonna keep up with their foolishness and we'll see how things progress.

    We'll see.
Knowing the solution doesn't mean knowing the method. Yet answering correctly and regurgitation are considered "learning" and "knowledge".

Huawei has been leading in Tech for a while up till 2019 before the ban, especially when it comes to 5G, as they own most of the patents for that standard. They were also cheaper so carriers were getting more value so they had to stopped because...China.

Have a look at the current status of OpenRAN. That article is from 2000. It hasn't worked out how the industry thought it would and the big boys Ericsson, Nokia and Huawei still reign supreme. Actually Nokia is on life support as AT&T just dumped Nokia and went all in on Ericsson so the major shakeup with all these OpenRAN vendors didn't materialise. Huawei still has China so they are self sufficient and some business with Africa while everyone else is being forced to remove their deployments.
