Well when they release a mediocre 720p Screen for $750, in an era where even $200 phones provide 1080p + 18:9 screens is a joke. And the funniest bit is that people are still gonna buy it becuase they slapped the moniker "Liquid Reatina Display" onto it as if its new technology. I have to shake my head at Apple fans. I can understand the appeal to their software ecosystem tho.

It's to distinguish their Retina Display which is referring to their OLED products from LCD. No one said it was new or innovative. Also, compare a $200 Android phone to an iPhone X/8/Plus with A11 Bionic or Xr/Xs/Xs Max and it'll look like its price... cheap.

there is already a distinction between LCD and OLED... Its in the names. Their trademark "retina display" applies to their IPS LCD panels and has nothing to do with the nature of the display only the pixel density.
They didn't say it was innovative or new I never said they did but calling an LCD display "Liquid Retina Display" is an attempt to cover the fact that it is just an LCD which fall short of 1080p specs available in smartphones since 2010. Its marketing at its best

Yes $200 is cheap for a decent smartphone and its no less capable than an iPhone. But at least you'll get 1080p 18:9 screen and that was the point!

The SIM dictates the locking policy of the phone. All iPhones come at minimum "Universal" i.e. unlocked until activated. SIMs reflect the carrier to be activated which iPhone sends to Apple which then returns to iPhone the locking policy of the phone if universal. This isn't so with unlocked/SIM-free iPhones. They're whitelisted by Apple.

Thank you for this info. Makes sense, but it can be somewhat frustrating at times though. With Android, you can bypass and jump in without any service or wifi. I do notice Samsung is starting to make setup similar, yet not quite.

Ummmmm, with a 6.1” display, they needed to go 1080p at least. There’s no need to further distinguish when Xs/Xs Max are 4k and dual cam. They’re just increasing margin at that point. I feel like it’s the 5c all over again - great on price, but placing it in a somewhat gimped space.
