Lol, there's always a way. Why yuh never took the free upgrade though? If you did I think you can use your Windows 7 key to activate a Windows 10 download... I think.

I think he can still do the upgrade. One way he can try the suggestion on this forum.

Basically if you use assistive technologies on Window you can upgrade for free to Windows 10.

Or you can use a windows 7 key on Windows 10 using the method here or here.

Noted with thanks, many options, the assistive technology option looks like exploiting an option left for ppl with disability... will look into them.

Go to the below page and click on "Download Tool Now". It still works and will upgrade and activate automatically once the Windows 7 was legit.

Windows 10 is great, I. have it on a Dell Inspiron 17 that was purchased in 2017 from Amazon but unfortunately I partially lost the activation key. Can it be recovered?

IIRC, only unused copies of Windows OSes require an activation key. If the computer came with Windows pre-installed, it is bound to that hardware profile, so reactivation isn't necessary.

Windows 10 and up can be installed without activation. If your copy is automatically activated, online activation can be done while logged into the OS.
