Upgrading to Ubuntu 14.04

What i usually do is backup my home directory and afterwards just copy all files from my previous home directory to the new, this way i usually have all my old application data

I usually take the same approach.

This represents a clean installation of the new operating system.

I guess I'll have to mainly copy the home directory. I was planning to do a bit of reconfig on the partitions too anyway. But my main concern is getting the programs I already have installed without those that came specifically with Zorin.

It really doesn't take long to install applications on Ubuntu. The GUI is quite easy to use.

Back up your data and give it a shot. Let us know how it turns out.

in linux mint there is actually a way to do this using mintbackup http://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/mintbackup
