Laptop as a hotspot

has anyone every tried using their laptop as a hotspot? i want to be able to use the internet through my laptop on to my mobile

There's lots of ways to do this based on searches done online, but my question would be where would your ISP come in? Wireless? Wired? SIM? USB?

Personally I just use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop. You plan to do this and make it paid access for others, or just for yourself on your other devices?

If the software in use supports the features you want, you can basically use said laptop as a server. The only issue I see would be drivers for the wireless unless you're using one of the Windows apps. Only issue I see is that the Windows apps may be all paid - I haven't checked so I can't be sure.

Things like pfSense and ClearOS and such would do what you need, but the drivers would be the issue as I said.

I am just seeing this .. if i am not mistaking ... this option came building from windows xp " ad-hoc" easy stuff no additional software or hardware required ( unless its a desktop " wireless card")

I bought the lifetime version of both software they have (hotspot and dispatch) for less than $30.00 (~$27.50) see their summer sale... dispatch combines two or more internet connections.

3GS. Can be done with Android phones as well. Just pay for a data plan and turn on wireless tethering.
