LIME Slashes Prepaid Mobile Internet Rates

Continuing its drive to increase Internet penetration nationally, LIME is rolling out a slate of low cost prepaid mobile Internet service packages with rates cut by as much as 66%.

Statement From LIME on Changes To The Terms For Approval Of The Digicel/Claro Merger

Like the rest of Jamaica LIME, is extremely disturbed at the news that former Prime Minister Andrew Holness took the decision to rescind a critical stipulation in the terms outlined by his predecessor, Mr. Bruce Golding, for the approval of the merger between Digicel and Claro, without concurrently passing the promised legislation to facilitate a meaningful reduction in rates and safeguard the telecoms industry.

Former Prime Minister, Andrew Holness has revealed that as part of his decision to change the condition of the Digicel/Claro merger, there was an agreement with the phone company to allow the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) to set call rates.

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) is set to meet with telecommunications firm Digicel today following revelations that the previous administration had removed a key condition it had imposed in approving the company's merger with Claro.
