Exclamation Got infected with Antivirus XP 2008 program

Got infected with this recently, just wanted to share if anyone else may have had this problem. This program actually disables your windows updates, changes your background to say that you have been infected.

    What this programs does:

Antivirus XP 2008 is a new rogue anti-spyware program that is advertised through Trojans and other malware. It is advertised in the form of fake security alerts and warnings on web sites that state you are infected with malware or are being attacked in some manner. When you click on these ads, it will automatically download the installer for Antivirus XP 2008 and install it on your machine. In some cases, this program is installed without any intervention at all from you.

It's surprising how developers are now taking pride in their work.. That looks like an official Windows Product..

no offence but did you belive these ads that pop up and say
"you MAY be infected with mal/vir/trojon download this software to check"

Its a old trick that alot of people fall for unfortunately, but I must say that one takes the cake, I was about to ask when MS come out with that. There are even some pop ups that do a "scan" of your system and claim to find security vulnerabilities on your system, when the real security vulnerability is usually between your chair and your keyboard

My sis was using IE on my laptop and she accidently clicked on some pop-up and the machine got infected right afterwards. Thats why I prefer Firefox doubt it would have happened. Oh well, couple frens of mine got it as well and this tutorial cleared it off.

well said Kilaj1 too many persons have the common "click me syndrome". Its really annoying when a person calls telling you they have a virus and you know its bcuz they clicked some damned foolishness. I think some people don't deserve to have or own a computer, i mean common sense and basic principles can be applied to computer usage to avoid these things. Most people get a computer the first thing they do is download limewire and install all these online arcade games which just pollutes the system with un wanted viruses and trojans instead of reading up on how to secure and protect the system and even to a greater extent how to properly utilise a computer

Another issue is that alot of people solely rely on there browser to protect them... they can only do so much. Me I have 2 Active Firewalls plus a VERY good Antivirus/adware program. All are set to update and scan daily.
