Default Local Computer User Groups

We all know of Jamaica Linux User Group, Jamaica Computer Society but what about the other active local computer user groups out there? I was a part of a community computer user group but it eventually died. What about the others any Windows NT user group, Telecom user group etc. out there?

Horror? It was that bad? I must admit that I am not familiar with the PCJ. It’s sad to hear about your bad experience.
I somehow get the feeling that SOME people in the IT field are just not interested in these computer user groups and societies, really unfortunate since it is from these organisations that we can, not only socialize with people that share our interest, but these groups can be used as lobby\pressure groups to protect our own interest and the country's interest in general as it relate to information technology issues. Take for example the push to use more open source software especially in government organizations to cut IT costs and to avoid the country been locked into proprietary IT schemes., what's going on in that regard? I know that that was an issue at Jalug- a good start although I don't know how far that one went? And even now I see the government is in the process of drafting legislation to regulate the e-commerce sector, now which NGO is taking an active interest in what's going on there?

Actually, my "experience" with PCJ extends to me attending a meeting where practucally no one showed. Only one's there was the person that invited me and a friend of his.

That was effectively the last announced PCJ meeting and for me to be present when it died was just horrific. I have deep emotional scars.

Hush CKnight, we're all here for you, night and day Hmmm ... but then again, it's going to cost too much (taxes) to "log on", so let's say that we'll be here for you between the hours of 11am-1pm ;D

Well,

Call me idealistic, but couldn't we start another?

I mean I am just planning to become a linux user and eventually become a member of JaLUG, but why not start another?

I am in the Montego Bay, and I know nothing of any computer societies in the region and if they do have, my they not doing a good job.

What do you think....could another all Island computer society be formed?

Meetings being held at a particular date in each region, were meetings usually cover the same agenda across the island and a minutes submited across the regions so that we can see what came up in the other regions that may have been over looked in the other regions.

blaa blaa blaa blaa blaa

What do you think?
