Default Sunbeach Barbados Cellular: apologies for the ongoing delay

The following is a press release from Sunbeach Barbados:

Dear Valued Sunbeach Subscriber,

Sunbeach would like to extend sincere apologies for the ongoing delay in launching our cellular service. We also wish to thank all of you for the level of support, which has been given to us during this period.

As a local enterprise awarded a license to be a cellular operator, our clear objective remains to grow the company into a leading multi-service telecommunications provider in Barbados. In the interest of maintaining good business performance as well as a high quality of service and product delivery to our customers, it was determined to operate the Internet business independently of the newly formed Cellular Division. To date the Internet Division continues to grow from strength to strength with new products and services being developed.

To ensure that the Internet Division was not heavily divested the Company undertook to secure separate funding to develop the Cellular Division of the business. We have been successful in raising the initial funding requirements for this venture, and are currently in the final negotiations with a leading lending institution for the additional capital requirements.

In this interim period much of the pre-development work has been completed and all of the contracts with affiliate partnerships have been finalized. Nortel Networks, one of our prime affiliates, which has built and installed over 140 cellular networks worldwide has already fully developed the framework for Sunbeach and are waiting to install the equipment.

Sunbeach is committed to delivering on its promise to launch a world-class cellular network in Barbados, supported by attractive and innovative packages and value added features. The offer of the 10,000 free handsets will also be fulfilled when our cellular network is fully operational.

We appreciate that many of you have waited until this time for our launch and have in some cases delayed choosing other carriers. However, in light of the delays Sunbeach has encountered, we have decided to now announce our revised launch date six weeks before the cellular network is ready for use by you. We will also offer you more frequent updates of our ongoing progress over the coming months to keep you informed.

Once more we would like to thank you for your ongoing support and look forward to bringing you a cellular service which will make Sunbeach your telecommunications provider of choice.

Yours Sincerely,
Sunbeach Communications Inc.

Sunbeach only offered the free cell phones to their current internet subcribers. not the general public.

that is really a smart move because what most people don't realise is that the mobile providers don't make money off their handsets but the calls that their customers make on the network.... absolutely brilliant albeit to their existing customers it's paints a good image for them.

The questions are: Would Sunbeach be able to make an impact at launch just like Digicel (and AT&T)? ???

Is the Bajan Mobile Market saturated with Digicel and C&W...what does Sunbeach intend to do about that since it would have to reduced the market shares of these companies (make persons switch to their service) ???

It probably is a big disadvantage that Sunbeach took so long to set up shop. It know has a heavier task at hand as oppose to several months ago when Digicel and AT&T first entered the market

UH it costs me 39.99 per month for unlimited access...and none of that parental filtering crap. Its the same as the regular plan, its just subsizided for students of tertiary institutions.
