Default RJR Enters Subscriber TV Market

RJR will launch Internet subscriber TV to bolster its $300-million upgrade.

The media group will use over-the-top (OTT) technology to deliver content rather than a dedicated, managed IPTV network.

In other words, the owner of TVJ won’t have to build its own network to provide content to its viewers because OTT content is delivered over the open Internet, like YouTube or Netflix.

Seeking clarification, I gather this will be a streaming service like netflix, but how similar? Will people see top rated content from HBO, ESPN etc.. or just mostly TVJ content like News Sports, ER, Profile and items from their archive like Lime Tree Lane?

They said they are using Over-the-top (OTT) technology..I must admit that I didn't know what that meant but it seems to mean similar to websites like Netflix and Youtube instead of an IPTV network.Incidentally Flow claimed to be coming with a similar service "Flow on the Go" some time ago but I believe that was/is a closed IPTV based service.

I understand, local content eh, this must be geared towards Jamaicans living overseas. I suspect they will now remove most if not all the video content on their website and lock it down for paying subscribers only/.
