What functionality were you looking to see on an online newspaper site? Like a chat or something?

There are video's, which are an added bonus.

Default New-look Observer website a hit with readers

Quote:
A week after the Observer launched its revamped website, the medium is still receiving rave reviews from readers and the company's online managers are reporting that daily visits to the site have increased 25 per cent.

The site sports a new design with a new colour scheme and gives readers breaking news updated throughout the day, easily one of the most popular features offered.

"I really love your new website," wrote a reader who gave his e-mail address as ianbanks@gmail.com. "I think you did a great job at the breaking news indicator. Great."

Visitors to the site are greeted by a home page with more content than before, providing links to stories within the major sections, all of which carry a lead story along with a picture.

In addition, the top 10 headlines for the day are listed and the site, which also offers streaming video, boasts a new advertising layout that will complement, not crowd the site.
Here are just a few of the many reactions received from readers.

I should also mention that the webmaster that did the new site is one of our very own Tech Jamaica member. In fact, he is a moderator here. Very well done!

Looks like the Video section of the observer pop dung shortly after it was premiered. Haven't seen a new video since shortly after the new design was published.
And I was looking forward to seeing more of the CNN and AP news video's they had.

can't you see CNN and AP videos on the site where they came from? lol.
I was on youtube the other day and I notice that there is this new module that you can add to the home page called "videos near you". Gleaner actually has a youtube channel, not particularly interesting and hasn't been updated in a while.

Where did they come from?
And you're suggesting I go to other sites to find video that I might be interested in?
Then what's the point of a video section if I have to go elsewhere to find it? I guess I could also go elsewhere for me local news too.

I notice Observer site is crawling these past few days. Takes at least a minute plus to load the page. I wonder if it's the comment system causing it? Anyone else noticing this?

Same here. But I've noticed it mostly happens in the morning...by noon and beyond it is flying. Perhaps it is deliberate, to encourage readers to buy the hard copy
