The rules of the microsoft competition don't satisfy me that the winners are the "best" programmers.....To find the best programmers I'd give a problem definition and allow the contestants to develop a solution in any language they feel comfortable using and look for the most efficient code.
Microsoft seems to be looking for ideas for new software with this competition.....

how about we at techjamaica put on a programming competition??

here are the rules of the microsoft competition

Microsoft Imagine Cup 2005 : Software Design

probly that is why many did not went through to the reginal finals. the object of the competition is to use a program that will disolve the boundrys between people.
i was suppose to form a second team from NCU however my entry was late.
my program was a multiplatform messenger that also works with mobile phones equipt with gprs and/or java. there would'nt be any boundrys because it is multi-language support(12 languages with more to add) and is accessable via what everyone has; a mobile phone.
others came with idea of vedio enable application that recognises sign language.
