    I LOVE IT! LOL.

    Here is a root guide:

    Samsung Captivate 32bit Drivers
    http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...s_5_02_0_2.zip
    - extract and then install drivers without phone connected to computer.

    - Setup USB Debug mode on phone
    - mount usb

    xda-forums - download root update.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725555

    - dl samsung captivate root update and rename to update.zip

    - copy update.zip to phone's main directory

download the windows google android sdk
    http://dl.google.com/android/android...Q0NDgzOA%3D%3D

    - extract android sdk from zip to c:\androidsdk\

goto start / run / then type "cmd" hit enter
    - cd c:\androidsdk\tools
    - adb reboot recovery

    - wait for samsung captivate to reboot into recovery mode
    - volume down on the phone and select "reinstall packages" hit the power button to accept and continue

your samsung captivate will reboot into android

    - check for the superuser program in the applications folder of the phone.

you can now install non-market apps.

i agree with HV all the way - i'd prefer the G2 over the captivate ANYDAY

There are two...one for 3.5mm headset and one for microUSB.

I dunno. While the G2 did make me feel more comfortable with QWERTY phones, I'd have to stick with my Captivate.

About the Arc...that is a possibility yes...but I am also looking at the two beasts...Motorola Atrix and LG Optimus 2X or even the Captivate successor Infuse.

    _____________

I have updated to 2.2. I decided not to do a video myself but to show you one that does a pretty good overview of the newer features:

Other changes I found not highlighted in video:

    1) Menu options are now in colour. Before it was a white on black, now the icons beside each setting option is in colour.
    2) A new Live Wallpaper called "Beach" was added.
    3) A new e-book reader application called "Nook" was added.
    4) Quickoffice is installed by default
    5) New notification icons when USB is connected and when battery is fully charged.
    6) When playing music in landscape mode, it no longer automatically goes to the CD Carousel. Instead it shows a landscape version of the portrait mode. You have to now activate that manually by activating "Go to Disc View"
    7) The power control widget now has an option for auto-brightness instead of just a 3-step brightness adjustment.
    8) Mass storage mode displays differently on phone
