The ps3 is not sonys home or atleast thats the argument hackers make. The hardware was bought which makes it the hackers home, not sonys. Sony is the intruder and it matters not who built the house. Would you like the people who built your house walking all over that?

No, of course not. I think the argument Sony was tossing around some time ago is that you don't technically own your PS3. What you own is the license to operate it; similar to software (or perhaps cable boxes? *shrugs* I think that's different). That's what I'm going from.

If you don't violate your EULA Sony leaves you alone. Similarly, while the people who built your house usually have no claim to it, if you don't pay your land taxes you run the risk of the Government taking it away from you (which you house just happens to sit rather comfortably on). And you paying your taxes is a requirement for you to occupy the land that you bought all those years ago.

It's all a bunch of legal crap, really. =P

I can only speculate about this, but they have websites, right? It probably has an e-mail address connected to it, which will have their IP address(es) logged. Once they toss a few subpoenas around and get that it's all over, I presume. Or some other way, but I think that's a rather small issue.
