Angry help! " file setupdd.sys could not be loaded"

    aight here the twisted tale:

an old acer veritron 5600g pc (intel p4 2.8ghz ,1.3ghz ddr333) running windows xp sp3 legit.

    issue#1)
for what ever reason after 1/2 hr or so the sound would chip out when streaming or using webtv apps live readonplayer. BUT audio was not a problem when when playing dvd or playing movies off the hdd.

the other day i decided to put a sound card in there to try to fix the audio issue...

    issue #2 )
i tried a creative ct4810 soundcard and phillips psc60x soundcard , which none of which the pc detected. ... even disabled to onboard audio via the bios and removed the drivers. Still doesnt detect any of them. .. i'm prolly just no0b.

    issue #3)
aight ( stress time) I went back in the bios enabled the onboard audio /f10 y / restart......

the pc posts attempts to boot, then this
" windows could not start because the following file is corrupt or missing :
    system 32\drivers\pci.sys

you may attempt.......... 'R' at the first repair screen....

.....minor matter, odd but minor matter none the less........ so i thought

i have 3 xp discs , including the original one used to install it on this pc .....

    issue #4)

at the first attempt to run the repair:

the disc spin up, xp start to do its system hardward inspection config thinngy.... then starts loading files . them this

" file setupdd.sys could not be loaded"
Set up cannot continue. press any key to restart.

so quite pissed....... i tried it a few more time, with all 3 dics and two different optical drives . SAME result

i even went back into the bios and set it to system default.....

then i tried a copy of MiniPeXp boot disc....... same thing........ now i'm at the point on WTF !

so I have another hhd i can try ....saddly it the same model brand, size , yup very same model.......... i try drop in ........... and stil the same crap.....

what to do....................... to fix this ?
getz mine the fast way, ski-mask way...

See if this give you any ideas to try: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330181

Don't know if you can use a live linux disk and update your pci.sys file from the windows xp cd.

    the wierdness continues......

i couldn't find any of the many blank cd that should be in my house....... so no linux live cd.

but........ i felt idle & decided to play dr.house md today:

i found another hdd today ( yes my junk boxes are like that)

and popped it in and guess what ... yup
i got the " windows could not start because the following file is corrupt or missing :
system 32\drivers\pci.sysyou may attempt.......... 'R' at the first repair screen...." again

    sooooooooooooooooo.....
i swapped the memory stick one by one. apparently one of the 512's was the issue.

the " windows could not start because the following file is corrupt or missing :
    system 32\drivers\pci.sys
you may attempt.......... 'R' at the first repair screen...."

    message is gone...........

    crap y didn't i do this b4, i knew i should have

but wait , theres more. i popped back in the 'iffy' stick of ram... not one problem at all

so i tried back the original hhd........ i didnt even need to run a xp repair.

so now the main issue is fixed, and she got more storage.... this will keep the kids off my pc for around 1/2 hour more.....
