Hate JA when I look at things like this. Reminds me of what was stolen from me and the fact that phones were in use for MONTHS and still not found because..............we live in JA. *sigh*
Knowing the solution doesn't mean knowing the method. Yet answering correctly and regurgitation are considered "learning" and "knowledge".

You have to know people son... cuz living in Jamaica is really a beyatch.... imagine you have a unique number such as your IMEI and you goto each provider with evidence that you purchased that phone and give them... all they have to do is see which number is currently in the phone.... and let the cops know the address... simple...

i mean, the first thing you do if u steal an electronic device is to wipe it. common sense i tell u, lacking.

but in any case, im glad the owner was able to recover his stuff

In the world of hacking you can tell when you have a virus or being logged. But yea.. All he had to do was format it..

Know how hard it is for a n00b to program a PPC Mac? It wasn't an X86; it was a PPC. If it ain't broken, don't format it :S Besides the guy couldn't afford to pay for such a programming job. He was on dial-up which I think is either free or very cheap in some parts of Nevada. Well, if it was Jamaica or Russia, he would have to kiss that rahtid bye-bye.

It's in the phone companys' best interests to NOT implement those security measures.

More phones stolen/lost => More phone sold

That itself is a huge profit boost to the already inexplicable >$1.00/min charges. Ever tried to itemize phone charges? What is it that all of us pay $10/min for?

Superhighway robbery is what it is.

What needs to be taken into consideration is that in order to do a clean install (or even a repair) of MAC OS X the installation must be booted from. In order to do this, the EFI firmware password must be known.
