I guess u could take it to Intcomex let them repair it. Should be able to repair. Otherwise...plan for a new one!!!
Backstory: had this Hanns G lcd for 4 or 5 years now, served me faithfully for work and play. Couple days ago, load shedding happens in the area and then we lose power for a couple of days.
When power returns and i boot up my pc, the lower 3rd of the screen is white, dead pixels. Very upsetting, but we proceed. i start looking around for replacement options. in the meantime, i migrate my taskbar from the bottom of the screen to the top and start working within the 66% of screen i have left.
Tonight, about 48 hours after first bootup, something odd is happening. The pixels in the lower 3rd of the monitor are fading in and out. They fade to the white of dead pixels, then return to the regular pitch of the screen. when i run my mouse into the dead pixel area, the display is not responsive and the mouse seems to appear and disappear.
Does anyone have a clue whats goin on here? is there hope for my monitor?
also, is there any tool or diagnostic i can run? and has anyone else ever heard of anything like this? i google and come up with nothing.
FYI - the UPS and everything computer related was unplugged for the duration of the power outtage.

We never know too much that we can't learn. Unfortunately most Jamaicans are about "hurry come up" and swatting than actually learning....
Ok, so another thing. The section of the screen which does not show... shows from time to time. it fades in and out periodically. My plan is to order a new Monitor in a couple weeks and then pull this one apart and try to find the case. When it does come back in, it flickers light and dark. Can anyone (khat?) tell me if this is a likely transistor and solder fix? any ideas?

If is dead pixels then the only fix is to change the screen.
Depending on the situation then you may find a bad component and be able to change it to solve the issue - but you will have to open it up first to see what's going on.
If you're not seeing a fault try and have a friend who is good at electronics take a look at it and check for faulty components.
If you have no electronics friend just take out the board/s and carry to a shop and ask them to check it out for you.

Its not dead or stuck pixels, the pixels dont show... except when they do for a few seconds fade in and out. That being said, i will see what i can do about getting someone to look at this. trying to look at this as a chance to learn some new tricks.

So, the LCD is back to normal for now, getting full display and its looks great and responds as normal. I am sure this is temporary, but i am just making notes and observing.
I went in search of a solder iron, solder and capacitors this morning. The iron and solder is cheap and easy, but where can i get Capacitors to buy?

What about contacting Hanns G's customer service and see what they know or can do, the worst they can say is that they will not send you a new one

good talk mr grim, but i still want the capacitors. After 4 years (Ordered in Oct 10, 2006, started giving this problem Oct 1st.) i doubt they gonna have any thoughts re replacing the monitor.
Anyone got any leads on capacitors?

Aight so what about just telling them the situation and see if they can point you in the right direction as it relates to a fix aand asking them about the capacitors that they used at the same time.
Two birds with one stone.
check this out it may help,
