I would agree with Druhan...going to heart just to do the course work and not do the exam (Cisco exam) is a waste of time.

i know you have to do the external exam boss, it wouldn't be my intention to jus do the course there and not do the external exam along with the skill exams.

boss ure right...but is not a ego thing why i even comment....i dont want you to fall into the trap....or else i wouldnt say anything...over 90 percent dont take external exam....nearly half drop out by by 2nd semester....why?....Cisco Academy OVERPREPARES you...its a lot of info....some people get intimidated by the thought of doing the external because of that....thats the TRAP...settling...because of fear. You get books with just lab scenarios alone..lol...but honestly....reading exploration 4.0 is not enough...it is not straight forward....written by some nice indian guys....lots of errors...info a bit too much..but u need fi know it..for the exams..but watch videos (CBTnuggets)...hint hint..all the person of the two batches before u...who passed used this apporoach...we made sure to pass along the baton....so im telling you....so you can know.

NO EMPLOYER IN JAMAICA recognizes the Cisco Academy cert by itself
. 70 is the pass mark for all exams by the way. You have to get above 75% in all 4 semester final exams to get 65% discount.

@vylle ...they may not have CCNP for now...they having issues with people paying....my batch/class was cancelled...so had to resort to home lab and self study. CCNA security should be starting about now. Ask Mr. Pinnock about it. Very few cisco people hold securities qualification. They will be doing CCNA Voice eventually.....bout february (unofficial).

no no never mean it to say its a ego thing, I'm actually seeing exactly what your talking about now, there are 3 people at my work place now that went to collage and went through the CCNA material but never took the exam, now our IT manager is requiring that we learn and get certified.

I for one am 101% intimidated by Cisco certs (doing it on my own that is, CBT nuggets, train signal), not because of the material, but because you HAVE to resit that exam every 3 years....might just be my laziness kicking in but i don't like it...although almost all certs are going that way

lol i hear you...the ego thing was intended for vylle and ricardo .....just wanted them to know...its just a passing the baton...making sure they know so dont make same mistake...but in regards to Cisco certs...heres the thing

CCNA is kinda a lot of stuff....but once u get it ...there are things like CCDA
CCNA Wireless...which honestly are easy..why?..cause they are short...and are almost just add on and nothing major...why am i mentioning them...

simply because you dont have to do over that exam....in cisco...when u get a new cert (in a different exam from what u originally did )....it re-certifies all the exams at that level and below..must be done before original expires though.

    for example

CCIE.Highest level (Expert Level)CCIE wireless, CCIE Voice, CCA
CCNP...Second Level (Professional Level) ...CCVP, CCNP wireless, CCIP, CCDP
CCNA...First Level (Associate Level)...CCNA wireless, CCDA, CCNA Voice, etc

if you do an exam...(any exam at either the same level or higher)....it renews all other certifications at the same level and lower.

So doing CCNA wireless roun wen ur CCNA expires...renews CCNA and gets u CCNA wireless as well. Doing CCNP does the same ..it renews ccvp ccip, etc and also renews ccna wireless , ccda, ccna voice at the lower level. all renewed with just doing a SINGLE NEW exam.

And kila...the new voice currculum is sweet....let me explain..once you are CCNA certified you can do ....CVOICE 6.0 642-436 exam.....its a CCVP..professional level exam..normally you have to do the exam at the associate level before u..can achieve certification at the professional level...

cisco is slick..other than this exemption...if you skipped the associate level exam...and they do allow u to pay n do the professional level exam...u just wouldnt receive certification...evn if u passed..until u did associate level exam

meaning...for voice..associate level exam is CCNA voice...for professional its 5 exams to be CCVP ....

here is the good news...if you do the CCVP 642-436 exam (cvoice 6.0)....you get certified both at the associate level....and the professional level by just one exam..

associate level cert can be had 2 ways
normal CCNA Voice exam ....640-460 IIUC
    or
642-436 CVoice 6.0 (One of 5 exams need to get CCVP)

so by doin the second u qualify for CCNA VOice
and u have CCVP cert exam
    as well

and have 2 Certifications instead of one
    by doing one exam

    neat huh
    anyways peace

what i get from all this is that heart does the ccna training...but you do not do the cisco exam at the end of the course...or is that an option

It is an option, but it would be pointless to do the course and not sit the certification exam.

that is exactly what i was thinking....why do the course and not sit the vendor certification exam....i thought it was mandatory as a part of the course....does heart host the certification exams by cisco
