Actually, it is not....i did some research after on crackberry and stumbled on the solution. It worked for me!

I went to this site and downloaded the file...

Then I used a desktop app called "bbsak" to install the cod files one by one then reboot.

Go to settings-->options-->applications-->add-on-->facebook

On the initial screen the version will still show 1.7.0.22 however look at these files and check the version;
net_rim_bb_facebook.cod
net_rim_bb_facebook_lib.cod
net_rim_bb_facebook_resource.cod
net_rim_bb_facebook_resource_en.cod
They all should say 1.8.0.31.

I would also do a battery pull after installing everything.

i got my invite to Beta test FB and BB messenger but u have to join the BB beta site and u doe necessarily have to get invited to beta test, i had to request the FB.
