Ok! I consider screenlets to be what Gadgets are to Window$. They just fit anywhere on your desktop you see fit and they are very functional and uses very little resources. You don't have to be a power user of the Ubuntu Terminal to install this on Ubuntu. The screenlets are not available in the download center but just a few simple steps and you are through with the installation and launching process.
STEP1:-
Go to: System--> Administration--> Synaptic Package Manager (enter your login password, if you have to) and type screenlet into the quick search box and hit ENTER. You would then see the screenlet package appear in the package plane.
STEP2:- Right click on the screenlet package and sellect “Mark for installation” and (click on Apply if it doesn't auto download) the package will begin to download and install itself.
STEP3:- After installation is successfully completed. Navigate to Applications--> Accessories-->screenlets.
After clicking the application, the screenlet manager with pre-installed screenlets will appear.
You would also notice the screenlet manager in the top panel system tray.
STEP4: Select Whatever screenlet you would like to use in the screenlet manager and customize the settings to your liking. In the event that you need more screenlets (like myself). CompizTheme.Org and dowload all you want. Then go to your username folder/ user folder (in my case- /home/anthon). You can then go to view and the menu bar and check “show hidden files”.
The screenlet folder would then be visible in which to extract and place your extra screenlets.
An easier alternative to placing screenlets in the screenlet folder is to drag and drop screenlet files to the screenlet manager window. Note though, this doesn't always works. Anyways, Enjoy the experience of screenlets in Ubuntu.
