Default 40% of BlackBerry Users Switching to iPhone, while Android puts up a good fight

Been seeing this all over the internet since last week. I had predicted this would happen to RIM. This company is treading down the same path as Palm in the 90's in fact I see where it's said that RIM is the Palm of the 10's. Lets see how long they think their well patented BIS and Push technology will save their asses. I am planning to switch myself if I don't see meaningful improvements in the upcoming OS 6. Push or no push mi leaving and going to Android. Frankly the iPhone is not as flexible as I would want it to be. Right now Android is going to become the No.1 OS this side of the world, with Symbian controlling European market.
March 15, 2010 - Silicon Valley, California – Nearly 40% of Blackberry users continue to prefer Apple's iPhone as their next smartphone purchase, but a third of them would also switch to the Android operating system, according to the second smartphone brand loyalty survey conducted semi-annually via Crowd Science's (www.crowdscience.com) advanced research platform for online audience measurement. The Crowd Scientists also found Android users rivaling iPhone users in loyalty, with about 90% of each user group planning to stick with their current brand when buying their next phone.

Asked specifically if they'd swap their present phone for Google's new Android-based Nexus One, 32% of Blackberry users said "yes," compared with just 9% of iPhone users. This figure zoomed to 60% for users of smartphones not made by Blackberry or Apple.

The question is: are they gaining more customers than they are losing? I would say yes, they are making ground in overseas territories. Blackberries are the most popular smartphones in the western hemisphere and they will remain 2nd for atleast a few more years. I might dislike them but I give them credit for what they have and are achieving. Out of blackberry, android and iphone os I would more pick iphone, not because of the 'brand' but because of what I can do with the os once I get my hands on it. Android and BB too java-ey for me.

Hope its not a case where RIM getting complacent. Yes they must get new customers but changes and updates in the Os is critical to keeping current customers. Android really making headway

The Iphone continues to put some of these companies in trouble. The US and North America is a huge market and if you tank in that market you are in trouble full stop.

With the unlimited data plans and text message plans I guess BBM isnt enough for the Americans and I can see why.

Dont think RIM will go bankrupt or suffer some steep decline just yet though, they are still a force.

I agree with you 90%, , BBM and Push Email, don't forget the Push Email, BBM alone cannot capture the masses which is why RIM still can still change this dark path they are presently on. It's not too late, which is why there is so much flurry about OS 6 now, hardly any emphasis is placed on 5.2 now, its all about 6. Lets see if it has what it takes to save RIM from losing their present control.

But remember this is the same rim ppl have been writing off for a few years now, almost every analyst hav been sayin that Rim will lose position soon... But they seem to strengthen quarter by quarter despite what others have been saying. I think they know how things work and how to utilize networks to achieve their goals. We just have to keep watch over the next several months and few years.

You know you are so right, from as early as I can remember, analyst are always predicting losses for RIM esp with their dedicated subscriber... and I get them in my alerts everyday...well lets see what the remainder of the year will bring for RIM, I am more anxious to see what the Q4 figures will look like, because by then everyone would have been more conscious on what path to take, speaking of both companies and the general consumer. I know I will still have my Berry, come Q4 if I am alive, but maybe by then I would have already started my transition over to Android via the Nexus One, or the Droid...
