    Default USB Port Issue

I have googled the problem, but none of them work.

Basically a customer machine, not recognizing any USB device. When plugged in, u can see that it pick up in Device Manager as well as Computer Management.

Does this have anything to do with the fact that it is using a Different motherboard? The original board died (HP board)....replace it with an Asrock board. USB port was working on and off, according to the customer.

Use a Microsoft Utility from my research, didnt work. Boss force me into formatting the machine when I wanted to do other research. I hate formatting and thats not what classify a GOOD TECHNICIAN or in other words, Computer Specialist.

Normally when I replace a board with a different one....I dont see that issue. Had to format the machine today....cuz I did test the board with another HDD...cuz sometimes Asrock board nuh good.

    Anyone ever have this problem?

Best bet is to try a live cd. If usb devices such as flash drive do not pick up using the live cd, chances are the issue is with mobo.

Thats the first thing I did...tried with a Live CD (Hirens)...and it work fine. Then afterwards, tried another HDD, install a fresh copy of Windows on it...all port works fine. So its not the board is the fault, I assume, but some problem with the Registry or something....pertaining to the USB drivers.

Wanted to do other research before formatting...cuz the customer had added some Windows XP skin and some other goodies (not for my liking)...wanted to STAY away from formatting. Been doing too much of this.

Your next options may be to place the drive back in the old...........never mind that.......

Your next best bet is to scrub the machine of ALL drivers and reinstall. If you do that though, some of the drivers that are HP specific may not want to reinstall, so that's not an option in some cases. I'd recommend doing a backup of the boot partition and then tinker with the USB devices. Try and remove all USB drivers from the machine and then install the new ones.

Its already too late....as the computer was already formatted...and guess who force me into it? My boss!!!!!

Speaking of uninstalling the USB drivers....I did do that from Device Manager, rebooted the computer....but somehow it still didnt work.

Not even doing a System Repair help.

I am a bit disappointed in the fact that my boss force me into formatting as I am sure there was a way around it, and just to add something on TJ how should one deal with a case like this.

You could try the registry settings as follows

    1. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder then SYSTEM >CURRENT CONTROLL SET > SERVICES >USBstor, located at the left pane.
    2. Find "Start" in the right pane with the blue icon.
    3. Double click "Start". A box titled "Edit DWORD value" will open.
    4. Write down "1" in the "Value Data" Field
