By default your administrator page in joomla is www.yoursite.com/administrator . Since this is popular knowledge, script kiddies will have a field day with your site.

There are many extentions that can fix this. Here is an entry level with is quite popular and which I use on most of my joomla sites.

@tekuva: Joomla though it's a good CMS is generally very heavy. Here are a few things to consider:
    1. A Good Hosting Provider [Do not use GoDaddy]
    2. Turn on Caching in Global Configuration
    3. Ensure all images are optimized (compare the image sizes when exporting in PSD or whatever program you use)
    4. Ensure CSS is Optimized (a good approach is to import other css files into your default css - template.css example: @import url(layout.css) +@import url(typography.css) + @import url(reset.css)
    5. Use conditions when loading Joomla module positions.
