Check out LOTRO I think its suppose to be free now they are dropping their monthly paid subscription and replacing it with F2P but with an item shop, there is also "Dungeons & Dragons Online" which did the same thing moved from monthly P2P to F2P with item shop so you could check out those two.

Well if you want PvP not sure of the F2P realm but if you want PvP you can try Aion or WoW or you can check out the old school stuff (REALLY old)of Lineage and Lineage II it would seem they still have active servers or you could try the GOD of MMORPG PVP and check out EvE Online they all suppose to have 7-14 day trials not sure about Aion and Lineage but I know WoW and Eve Online has and if you really like Eve I can get one of the active members I use to roll with to send you the 21 day trial.

Yeah, I'm not sure how much it will work, the only game I can possibly think of that has it is maple story. The only things you buy are vanity items like clothes and such, to things that give you a /chance/ to get awesome stuff, but there are /ways/ to do it in game too. Or they have some double exp/double drop items. They are probably the biggest F2P I think in terms of players and cash they roll in each year.Originally Posted by Anubis

Hmm whenever I hear people talk about their best PvP experience, the games that come up usually are
Lineage II [Open World]
DAoC (Dark Age of Camolot) [Open World/Factions]
Guild Wars [Arena Based]
Now in terms of Free to play, well I've played some great ones but they tend to do the same thing you mention... Turn into P2W after a while.
I think Runes of Magic isn't too bad from the last I heard. A few people I know ran around killing people with cash shop gear naked except for a weapon. So maybe you can get by in that one. I'll see what I can find out about F2P PvP from some friends.

I'm playing Allods from beginning again even though i have a lvl 27 and a lvl 30+. While I like he gameplay of DN I got bored of the constant run to dungeon, do quest,back into dungeon again. Maybe I never get to the best part but I decided to call it quits. I've had more fun in Allods than I had in DN.
