    Images that appear faintly in the background of printouts are referred to as ghosting. This is normally caused by one of two conditions. The easiest and first thing to check would be a broken cleaning blade, which is normally part of the toner cartridge. If the cleaning blade does not clean the drum, it can leave toner behind that would be transferred to the next print job, resulting in a ghost image. The second thing that can cause this is a bad erasure lamp. The erasure lamp is used to remove the electrostatic discharge from the drum before the next page is printed. If it is not removing all of the charge from the drum it will allow parts of the previous page to be ghosted on the following pages. If this is the problem you would need to replace the erasure lamp.

    Correct Option(s):

    a) A broken cleaning blade
    b) A bad erasure lamp

    Incorrect Option(s):

    c) A fuser problem - If the fuser was bad, the images would smudge, not create a ghosted image.
    d) A driver issue - If this was a driver issue, either the printer would not operate or the output would consist of garbled characters.
