    Checking the adapter first.
    Then checking the PC to see if they correspond.
    The trouble with learning from experience
    is that the test comes first and
    the lesson afterwards

    I'm checking that laptop first. What if for some reason they had an adapter that was providing the wrong amount of power?

    Although there are many places that you can locate the power requirements for a specific model of laptop, the first place you should look is on the bottom of the laptop. Most laptops will have a sticker that clearly states the input values for volts (V) and amps (A). When purchasing a new power adapter for your laptop you should make sure you get one that exactly matches these values.

    Correct Option(s):

    a) The bottom of the laptop

    Incorrect Option(s):

    b) The bottom of the adapter - The required information may or may not be located on the bottom of the adapter. Looking on the bottom of the laptop is the most likely place to find this information.
    c) The laptop's manual - The question did not state that the customer brought their laptop's manual with them. You could look it up online, but looking on the bottom of the laptop is quicker.
    d) The power settings in the operating system - The required information cannot be found in the operating system's power settings.
