The BBC's flagship consumer show Watchdog has highlighted failure rates for the PlayStation 3 and the so-called 'yellow light of death', although attempts to fix consoles on behalf of disgruntled consumers backfired.

Watchdog established a repair team outside Sony's UK HQ earlier this month, complete with branded van, and filmed 11 users getting their consoles repaired for free. During the show tonight, it admitted four of those consoles repaired by "experts" were no longer working.

Hope sony sues dem ****. Totally irresponsible and to not even mention the 360 in it is biased. All they managed to point out to me is that there is a 1% failure rate of ps3s in the UK/EU. Atleast from the figures sony gave

Sony tackles BBC over 'PS3 failure' report
Sony has issued an unprecedented defence of its PlayStation 3 console amid claims that it is suffering from inherent hardware failure issues, and that Sony's out of warranty repairs service is inadequate.

The BBC's Watchdog programme will tonight air a report claiming Sony "refuses to fix" systems suffering from the so-called 'yellow light of death', which forces the console to shut down immediately after booting up.

In response, Sony has issued a detailed six page document, reprinted in full on GamesIndustry.biz, questioning the accuracy and research of the Watchdog report.

Is the "yellow light of death" a constant occurance when ever one tried to use their PS3 or is it a case that you will be playing a game or sometimes the PS3 starts up with it similar to how the "blue screen of death" occurs on a PC because the line above seems so what confusing it kinda makes it seem that the PS3s that were repaired by the experts were not working period and the experts fixed it instead of being displayed as "after Sony's experts claimed to fix the PS3 they stopped working.
