    Default CompTIA A+ Remote Technician Quiz #20

    You receive a call from a client working for a publishing company who uses specialized word processing software. These clients have a shortcut in the startup folder, so the application starts when they log in. This method has worked fine in the past, but after routine computer maintenance, a user reports a problem. Upon logging on, they are presented with a message that states 'the operating system was unable to locate the program's executable file'. What could potentially resolve the user's problem? Choose the best option(s) from those listed below.

    a) Reinstall the application.
    b) Reinstall the necessary registry settings.
    c) Repair the operating system.
    d) Repair the application.

    I think D would work if the app had been installed from a MSI package.

    It is clear from the problem description that the installation of the user's application has somehow been corrupted. By repairing or reinstalling an application, you will return it to its original configuration. Any files that have been removed or damaged will be replaced by the original copies.

    Correct Option(s):

    a) Reinstall the application.
    d) Repair the application.

    Incorrect Option(s):

    b) Reinstall the necessary registry settings. - This is a problem with missing or corrupt files, not with an incorrectly configured registry. Reinstalling registry settings will not solve this problem.
    c) Repair the operating system. - The presented scenario is not referring to a problem with the operating system. The cause of this problem is due to corrupt or missing files. Repairing or reinstalling the application will solve this problem.
