Default Looking A Breakdown Of A Printer PCL Driver?

I have been having some printer issues at times when I download drivers for a specifc brand and model it comes in several PCL versions (Printer Controll Language) and some versions work better than some at times it leads me to do a troubleshoot of which driver works the best and when you have 10 or more computers to do this with it can become rather tedious. So I'm looking for a breakdown of the PCL drivers the ones I usually see are PCL 5 & PCL 6 or several versions of those drivers what is the main difference amongst them and does PCL 5 & or PCL 6 signify any specific etc.

My company and my job role requires the installation of over 50 different types/brands of printers (not on the same system). Some printer drivers come with a host of driver types, not just PCL.

From what I've seen, the different versions and types have different features enabled, but this is very specific to the printer, so its hard to give you a general answer to your PCL question.

In some cases you don't notice any difference between drivers. In some cases however the software we use don't work with PCL drivers at all (Citrix) in this case we turn to PS (Post Script). Some of our printers that have PCL and PS even have UFR II drivers (tis was for a Canon iR C4080).
