Talk about PC gaming all you want, but if they wanted they could do the same thing to the PC man one way or another if they wanted.
Don't see why a manufacturer should be able to tell me what mods I can and cannot do with MY hardware that I bought. It don't cost HONDA no money if I put a turbo on my car, it don't cost SONY no money for me to put a mod-chip in my console!!

But you take money away from sony when you use that modchip to pirate their games. I guess they're just trying to preempt that, and you have to admit, that is the primary reason people mod their consoles anyway.

Unless you're talking about pirating ps3 games I don't see why people complain about the lack of a modchip for it. It's not like you can't run emulators and other stuff on it right now anyway.

You cant do jack sht with the ps3 right cept what sony has programmed it for. Linux is not good on it so thats nothing.

They should go after piracy then, not modding. If they charge him for piracy it wouldnt be so bad.

Seeing as modding (specifically the installation of modchips) and piracy pretty much go hand in hand, how else would you suggest they go after it?

I'm not necessarily on Sony's side on this btw. I'm just trying o explore a different perspective.

The same way they go after illegal file sharing.

There was a lot of controversy around this DMCA crap and i think it was well founded. Will see more of this happening

Hmm maybe next time I should also quote engadget's source

LOS ANGELES - A Southern California college student has been arrested on federal charges that he illegally modified video game consoles to enable the machines to play pirated video games.
