Default Urgent Help for OVERHEATING Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5900

Guys I need some assistance ASAP on this Lappy that I am working on. The problem is a friend of mine took it me to install some drivers for the sound, video and wireless, however the lappy only runs for about 20mins TOPS then powers down feeling EXTREMELY HOT especially on the bottom and sides

I am wondering if this is a motherboard issue or is there an issue with the fans not cooling properly?

Any assistance rendered would be gratefully welcomed

Have you confirmed that the fans actually start spinning to cool the machine?

I would say the same, check the fans and vents. If they spin but you cant hear them well, then get a program to change the speed they run at. Think speedfan is such a program. If nothing was changed hardware wise (not opened bumped or anything) i wouldnt think check the heatsinks but if there is reason to suspect that the sinks arent taking up the heat proper then... openharup and give the ol' gal a proper fixin'

L305 can be a fairly recent purchase, if its under 1 year its under warranty. i would advise backing up the HDD and then sending it back. Depending on where it was purchased you could even score a brand new machine or an upgrade.

Well so far so good. There is only one fan in the machine and it spins at a low rate when comparing to other laptops that I have seen. Plus the vents look dirty. What is the recommendation from here? Should I clean it cause somehow I think it is a motherboard issue.

Anyways I would really appreciate if someone could take a look at it because as soon as it gets hot then it is bye bye time and I know it is not because we are going through a miserably hot summer.

Guess what? I have been running the same overheating machine now for over an hour with no issues again......It is no longer shutting down. Guess what I did? I Simply booted up the machine and left it on the logon screen and so far so good...NO ISSUES....Which means it is definitely either a driver issue or a corrupted OS so I am gonna load Windows Xp and downgrade it from Vista as it looks as if this machine is not Windows Vista compatible
