    Default IPAQ vs. Toshiba PocketPC

Trying to decide between the (Compaq) IPAQ 39xx series and the Toshiba e740

Both run at 400MHz (Intel Xscale) but the e740 has an integrated Wi-Fi wireless.

    Any experts out there?

I was stuck between the Toshiba PocketPc and the Palm M515. I kinda stuck, but stuck closer to the Palm becuase I can get more accessories for the Palm.

But I like the Toshiba PocketPC more. See if the proposed improvements that C&WJ has planned will include WiFI?

This is what ZDnet's reviwer had to say about them:

"Compare HP's iPaq H3950 to the company's iPaq H3835, and you'll notice two important upgrades: a new, transflective LCD and the faster Intel XScale processor, which runs at 400MHz instead of 206MHz. That's all well and good, and we expected a price bump for these improvements. Unfortunately, the $649 H3950 is not only expensive, but it costs slightly more than competing products such as Toshiba's e740, which has more features, including Wi-Fi connectivity."

The iPaq uses only an SD card for expansion, the e740 uses a CF as well - this allows connectivity to ethernet and other options not available with an SD card.

    Those handhelds are pretty expensive.

Have any of you ever heard of the Dell Axim X5?

It's a helluva lot of a bang for the money!

    That's the 400 MHz model.

yeah, my brother-in-law followed my suggestion and got one. It's pretty neat with pretty much all the features you would need with a mid-level PocketPC. The only shortcoming that I barely noticed was the smaller screen compared with my iPaq. I wouldn't hold this as a major shotcoming because it's not restrictively small and besides, I noticed it because of my familiarity with my iPaq.

Speaking for myself, I wouldn't say so. I have an iPaq because it was imho one of the best PocketPCs to get out of the small range of options at the time. If I were to go it all over again, I would seriously consider a Dell because of the lower $$ and features offered.

Well peeps, I prefer the IPaq, but don't you think thaT the Palm is loaded with more accessories, and I mean when it comes on to free software, you surely will have a huge library to choose from with the Palm OS. You know that microsoft is all about paying for software.....just my opinion.
