    Default 'Unbreakable' encryption unveiled

Lets see how long before this is broken.

Perfect secrecy has come a step closer with the launch of the world's first computer network protected by unbreakable quantum encryption at a scientific conference in Vienna.

The network connects six locations across Vienna and in the nearby town of St Poelten, using 200 km of standard commercial fibre optic cables.

Chat dem a chat now.....thers always a way to get in.
Its just a matter of time for the hackers

If you guys actually read the article, one of you could tell me HOW would it be possible to break into the data stream ?

These are typically based on complex mathematical procedures which are extremely hard for outsiders to crack, but not impossible given sufficient computing resources or time.
Well as stated by the article its highly improbable but not impossible

I know for a fact that there are ppl out there who dedicate their life to hacking and cracking......and im not joking.
So like i said b4, its only a matter of time b4 u see ppl start putting up tutorials and video blogs on how to get past this quantum encryption

Dear God, please make my fellow Jamaicans readers, even though I would no longer be able to hide my stock certificates and bearer bonds in a book.

The above quotation was directed at traditional methods of cracking.

This is what the article was talking about for the lazy *****es who see more than 4 sentences and get brain freeze.

But quantum systems use the laws of quantum theory, which have been shown to be inherently unbreakable.

"All quantum security schemes are based on the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, on the fact that you cannot measure quantum information without disturbing it," he explained.

"Because of that, one can have a communications channel between two users on which it's impossible to eavesdrop without creating a disturbance. An eavesdropper would create a mark on it. That was the key idea." photons, the "atoms of light". Incredibly faint beams of light equating to single photons fired a million times a second raced between the nodes in the Vienna network.

From the detected photons, a totally secret numerical key can be distilled, which encodes the users' data much like the keys used in normal computer networks do.

The advantage is that no-one else can know the key without revealing themselves. As we saw in the demonstration, when an intruder did try to listen in on the quantum exchange, photons became scrambled, and a rise in the error rate at the node detectors signalled the attack. The system automatically shut down without being compromised.
Let me make it simple for you...

Imagine two fishes talking using water as a phone system, and the hacker is a bird, it is impossible for the bird to begin to eavesdrop without rippling the surface at some point. The fishes telephones detect the ripples and shut down.

well......... it seems the days of cyber crime is slowly going out of fashion!very good!! hope this tech can be expanded rapidly!

if this kinda tech could be used in DVDs then them ppl dey would be ok. like if u try copy a dvd it causes the data stream to become scrambled etc.......
Back to square one....., back off the ground now........

Yes, but if the bird was able to get a mic implanted into teh reciever of one of the fishes....

If you can't break in from the outside, then do it from the inside, Duh!

And who is to say that some brilliant physicist or someone with a background in Physics will not come up with a way to beat the system? Don't forget that that monstrosity called the Titanic was 'unsinkable'.

The bird still has to get below the surface don't, how else to plant reciever ?

The deciding factor is the human one. You can have a greedy fish, who want a money and just override the system. But even so, he would still be found out.

The point is, so long as the parties who are interested in sending messages are not going to compromise each other, they can recieve uncapturable data. Which is the whole idea.
