Dell laptop cant get automatic updates

Windows Vista Home Premium

When www.windowsupdate.com is accessed I get a note back saying windows cannot be updated! Any suggestions please?

I must haste to say that it cannot be updated manually either.

CPA I had this problem earlier and I even did a thread on techjamaica but alas the problem was never resolved until I did a reformat which I really didn't want to do but after constant trying to recover and rewriting the files that are use to update the computer nothing happened. Eventually I had to reformat.

ONE THING YOU CAN DO THOUGH BEFORE A REFORMAT IS TO POST THE ERROR MESSAGES THAT YOU ARE GETTING SO THAT WE WILL KNOW HOW TO TACKLE YOUR SITUATION AS NOT ALL SCENARIOS REQUIRE A SYSTEM REFORMAT.

Post your all your error logs as well so that we can try and see what can be done.
