Because of the wide variety of modems around and because of the proliferation of those nasty little "win-modems" there are MANY possibble combinations of modem init strings. I use a highly tweaked init string for my modem on linux using kppp or wvdial. (Linux Dialup Tools) upon request i can post it for you.

Question 2:
Who is your isp ?

My modem is a lucent 56k modem
Ans. 2.
My service provider is C&W
