Ladies and Gentlemen, the original poster did not say design only in terms of aesthetics... or interface features. He was talking about the nuts and bolts.
Such as the internal roll cage built into the Thinkpad T61...

This feature provides a solid body that most laptops, including the Macbook do not have.
In short, this model was built to take being hit and banged that the XPS and Asus are delicate tissue papers when compared.
These Thinkpads also have a feature built into their custom hard drives. If the laptop suddenly begins to fall or you jerk it or move it rapidly it immediately parks the hard drive heads, and spins down in a fraction of a second to prevent disk damage... long before it hits ground.
Those who do not understand UNIX are doomed to reinvent it poorly.
Anyway it goes...I'd never want a fugly Lenovo/IBM. For my own needs, I am not a child so I don't see the need to "bullet proof" anything.

My research on Laptops computer speaks to IBM been one of the best Laptop Computers on the market the only down fall on IBM is the design. If your looking for Performance choose IBM but if you looking at design go for Toshiba, sony, dell, IBM, Hp, Compaq or Apple.
I don't think the other brands trade off that much in terms of performance so that's why they are more suited to me. Matter of fact...IBM performance in terms of what? Build quality? Because that seems to be the only area they shine. Specwise everything else seems to be ahead for the most part.
