    Cool Very simple network

What is the simplest way to set up a network connection? Both computers already have network cards and run on XP. I just really want to share files between the computers. I know nothing about networking.

U can get someone to crimp a cable to connect the 2 for u this is easy and network technician can do that ... the 'pre-crimped' ones u gonna get at the puta shops usually will not work as the ends r wired to connect thru an intermediary device such as a hub/switch.

i use the very same setup to connect my desktop with the laptop and share the gprs on the laptop

Use a cross-over cable. if you use a straight cable(patch cable) you wont be able to connect the two.

    easy way...

    1. right click on the folder you wanna share..

    2. and click the option that says "share this folder on the network" if you don't see that option then you haven't setup sharing on the network, in that case use the wizard and go through the options...

    3. not sure if it ask you to restart, but if it does then do it..

after that, when windows starts go to the...
[Start] --> [run] then type cmd, when command prompt comes up type ipconfig to get ur ip address.. it should say something like 169.254.###.###

    4. on the remote computer open 'run' and type \\169.254.###.###

you should see the shared folder...

O by the way you didi plug the cables in right, right...
