This is a really good thread and I think it should be a sticky.

My Favorite Free Applications and Boot Discs:

Hirens Boot CD (9.5 is the latest official one)

Dariks Boot/Nuke CD (Good Boot disc for formatting drives, includes advanced security options where the drives data can be over written up to 35 Times making it unrecoverable)

    CCleaner
Includes registry cleaner, data destruction feature, program uninstaller, etc.

    Eusing Free Registry Cleaner:
Free registry cleaner with lot's of features such as backups, advanced search, etc.

    TrueCrypt
    :
Encrypt files, Hard Drives, Flash Drives, etc. with advanced encryption (You can also encrypt your system files requiring a password to boot the system)

People don't even need to come to TechJamaica for most of their problems. If they'd just use good search tactics and common sense, they'd find most if not all the need.

But no, they depend on others a million times over, like a damsel in distress. It's pitiful.

aww cmon man thats harsh . are you trying to tell me that is someone sees u as a tech guru he shouldnt ask questions . he should find out fo him self ... are you that selfish wit knowledge or lazy to help out a newbie or baffled techie ....

i do admit some questions are obvious and may seem dumb but in some cases obvious methods are used an do not work . i dunno about u other techies but the computer doesnt normally rely on protocol instructions all the time

ive seen cases in which a normal delete then empty from recycle bin doesnt resolve any disk space and after doing a proper search the results normally tell u the same thing that u always do ...which is really no help at all

there is a reason why we have forums so ppl can discuss and help each other and complian abt the bugs or M$ software . . . . cause im sure we all have unique cases within the OS that are not "normal"

one example is that after installing xp . notepad takes five mins to load i didnt complain cause thats m$ for u

multiple posts asking the same thing can be annoying i admit ......but there is no need to throw words and make a newbie feel . ignorant

It's reality. Face it. I should've included...that I was being specific to software needs as this is what the thread is about, but not necessarily a real technical issue...TechJamaica should be a place of last resort in my opinion.

How will they elevate themselves to "Techie" status unless they do some trial and error on their own? Some of the same people will remain "newbies" because of this same hesitation. I am certainly not going around trying to stroke my ego on this forum either by trying to be the Tech saviour.

P.S. My remarks were not geared towards newbies in particular. Technically on this forum, a newbie is just a member who's been on here a short time or with few post counts. The remarks were quite general, rather than specific.

Back on topic though...this is not a big issue here. I would add Spyware Terminator and the very intrusive Comodo Firewall to the list as well.
